About Gospel Saturated
It’s the water we live in.
Biblical theology, Christian thought and the questions of faith, church and culture, written from the east coast of Australia.
Honest, deep and grounded in Scripture
Gospel Saturated began in 2018 as a personal passion project by Carrie Shaw. Since then, it’s grown into a place for exploring biblical theology, Christian thought, ethics, interpretation, and questions of faith, church, culture and everyday life, read by people across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and North America.
But its heart has always been here at home. We believe the gospel speaks to every part of life, including the culture around us, so we engage thoughtfully with the questions Australians are asking about identity, meaning, freedom and truth.
Gospel Saturated is a place to wrestle with those questions rather than avoid them. We want to understand what Scripture says, think carefully about how it should be interpreted, and consider what the gospel means not only for what we believe, but for how we live.
The heart behind Gospel Saturated
Carrie lives on the east coast of Australia with her husband Luke and their three kids. She’s studying a Diploma in Biblical Theology, and she loves coffee, the ocean, good books, long nerdy conversations and, above all, Jesus.
She writes because she’s convinced the church needs to be both clearer and kinder: clear about what Scripture actually says, and kind in how we say it. She’s been on both sides of that equation and is still learning, and she’d rather be honest about that than pretend otherwise.
Four convictions underneath everything we write
Scripture is our authority
We read it slowly, in context and as a whole, and let it say what it says, even when that’s uncomfortable.
Jesus is Lord of all of life
The home, the church, the workplace and the culture around us all sit under his rule.
Truth and love aren’t rivals
Conviction without kindness misrepresents Christ, and so does kindness without conviction.
Gospel first
We engage culture wherever Scripture speaks, but our allegiance is to Christ, not to any party or personality.
“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”
The gospel is good news before it’s good advice
It announces who Jesus is, what God has done through him, and what that means for our lives and our world. When we drink deeply of it, our hearts are satisfied, our lives are renewed and our habits change.
Over time the overflow shapes how we think and speak, how we work and love, and it brings quiet good to our homes, our workplaces and our streets.
Water brings life
We don’t just dip our toes in the gospel or take a quick wash. We step in and submerge our whole selves, until every part of life is saturated by the good news of Jesus Christ.
Like water, the gospel brings life to the soul and fruit to a community. We want that life to take root, grow and multiply as people hear it, believe it and live it out in word and deed, for the good of others and the glory of God.
How we write and check ourselves
We take the Bible seriously. We read it in context, and we listen to the historic church, not because it’s perfect, but because we aren’t the first Christians to wrestle with these questions.
When we make a claim, we’ll show you why. When we disagree with someone, we’ll represent their view fairly before we answer it. And when we get something wrong, we’ll correct it.
Some topics are sensitive and some passages are hard. We won’t pretend otherwise, and we won’t avoid them either.
Whether you’ve followed Jesus for decades, are new to faith, or are here to push back, you’re welcome. Pull up a chair.
